Project Summary

A single large array was installed on the gantry roof of a Western Power Distribution training facility (an electricity network operator). A bespoke framework was designed for mounting the modules on the gantry, while the overall system layout was carefully designed to minimise the effects of shading and reduce hazards during planned redevelopment of the older parts of the building.

Technical Information

The system comprises of 72 high efficiency multicrystalline Kyocera PV modules, with a Fronius IG30 inverter on each of three phases converting the output to grid-standard AC electricity. The bespoke mounting system was based around a twin-rail mounting system with specially fabricated upstands. A public display board with live LED readouts of system performance and a customised graphic was fitted in the reception area.

Social, Economic and Environmental Benefits

In addition to saving an average 4.1 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year, the system is also to be used in WPD's training courses to familiarise their engineers with the microgeneration systems they will encounter.
