Project SummaryA hybrid SSEG system of two PV arrays and a mast-mounted wind turbine was installed on the site of a new office building in Okehampton, near Dartmoor, Devon. The installation will, in combination with other sustainable initiatives realised in the building, create an extremely low environmental impact premises. |
Technical InformationThe PV system comprises of 64 multicrystalline Kyocera PV modules, connected to two phases via Fronius IG40 inverters. The third phase is balanced by a 6kW wind turbine mounted on a 15m tilt-up mast via an series of power electronic devices. Due to the curved Euroseam roof, components for the PV mounting frame were fabricated specifically for the project. Live public display boards were installed alongside a monitoring system integrated into the BMS, to raise clients’ awareness of renewable energy and provide high quality system performance data. |
Social, Economic and Environmental BenefitsThe system displaces 10.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions through reduced electricity consumption every year, which contributes to the building’s low impact design requirement. The reduction in operating costs will also generate additional revenue and/or savings for the building operator through electricity sale and reduced consumption. These measures will reduce the building’s impact on the Dartmoor area. |
