This tool uses the DTI's NOABL windspeed database to estimate the annual average windspeed at 10m above ground level in your area. This can be used as a first-pass check on the resource to see if a wind turbine may be a good idea for your site.
To use the tool, enter either your OS Landranger 8-figure grid reference or OS Eastings and Northings ("WGS84") reference into the box below and click Submit. If you don't know the grid reference, click here to convert a postcode to an approximate reference.
The resulting table will show the estimated annual average wind speed at 10m a.g.l. for the 1-km grid encompassing your site, as well as the surrounding squares. Note that the NOABL model only accounts for large terrain features, such as hills, and doesn't include for minor topographical features within the grid-square, vegetation, buildings or proximity to the coast.
